All questions for these events should be directed to Kelly Stoneburner’s email krs233@vt.edu Tennessee is providing the trails, but Kelly is managing these events.
This is SoCo Endurance’s first year hosting a Ride & Tie or Equathon, our endurance rides have been very successful, so we are hoping that these events are easy to tack on.
This event will be held during the first 2 days of the Spanish Peaks Pioneer, and will share the same trails.
Generally, the 50 milers at SoCo Endurance are broken in to 3 loops, all of which circle back in to camp for vet checks. The loops are GENERALLY about 25, 15, and 10miles. Every day varies but the goal is always to have each loop be shorter throughout the day.
Generally, the 25 milers at SoCo Endurance are broken in to 2 loops, each of which circle back in to camp for vet checks. The loops are GENERALLY about 15, and 10miles. Every day varies but the goal is always to have each loop be shorter throughout the day.
Generally, the Intro rides at SoCo Endurance are a single short loop, which will circle back in to camp. Our shortest loops are in the 9 to 15 mile range.
We will be using these same trails to offer Ride & Ties, Equathons, and Intro Ride & Ties. Your loops will have endurance riding traffic on them too.
It is EXTREMELY common to see wildlife in this area. While I hope you enjoy the majority of it, I also want you to be very aware of your surroundings. Bears are sighted daily, and even wander in to camp, mountain lions are EVER-present but rarely spotted, and we come across 3 – 4 rattle snakes per year. Educate yourself on these natural dangers before you are alone on foot. Coyotes, turkeys, grouse, porcupine, skunks, fox, raccoons, bob cats, antelope, deer, elk, and cattle are not going to bother runners. It’s the bears, mountain lions/cougars, and rattle snakes, that are my greatest concern as a ride manager, to runners.
